Since 2021, the Milton Town School District (MTSD) Board of Trustees has been working with the community to find solutions for the aging Herrick Facility. At the start of this school year, classrooms in three hallways were temporarily closed, delaying school and moving students to alternative spaces during the remediation process.
After gathering community input through forums and surveys, the MTSD Board has chosen to proceed with a stabilization project (Course of Action 1) for the Herrick Facility. This approach includes vital upgrades, such as electrical work, new windows, a water heater, HVAC and dehumidification systems, domestic water updates, roof replacement, and gutters. These upgrades aim to ensure that the building can continue to operate safely and effectively, addressing many of the critical infrastructure needs.
Next Steps and Community Involvement
Members of the MTSD Board of School Trustees will be in attendance at the Milton Craft Fair tomorrow at the MHS between the hours of 9:00 Am - 4:00 PM and would appreciate the opportunity to hear your feedback as well as answer any questions you may have.
The Board will discuss the stabilization project in more detail, including a proposed bond vote, at the meeting on November 21. If approved, this vote will appear on the ballot at the upcoming Town Meeting Day in March 2025.
