We always endeavor to be as transparent as possible when we receive information that could impact our students and community. The District would like to provide you with information about a hoax Snapchat message alleging an act of violence against MHS.
On Wednesday October 16, 2024 at approximately 6:30 p.m, both the MHS and District Administration received several communications from families along with a screenshot from a SnapChat post. The post was a photo of a person’s eye with a written warning of a school shooting at Milton High School. The Milton Police were immediately notified and began looking into the situation.
At approximately 9:25 p.m, we received an update from the Milton Police. As a result of their discoveries, it has been determined that this is not a credible threat. On behalf of the District, we extend our appreciation to the Milton Police, who responded immediately and did extensive work to find out how and why these posts were created and shared.
Please know that the District will communicate any credible threats immediately, and will activate our security plans instantly to protect our students and staff. Once again, this was not a credible threat, and we are sending this message to dispel any rumors or SnapChat misinformation that may be circulating.
In closing, the safety of our students and staff is a fundamental duty of the school district. We appreciate the diligence of our students, parents, and community in reporting issues of concern to District officials. Your trust is incredibly valuable to us, and we recognize our important role in creating a safe environment for your children and our staff. If you have any questions, please contact your building administration.
