FY26 Budget
The MTSD FY26 Budget Planning season has begun. It is likely that this year will be as challenging - if not more so, as last year. The VT Education Funding model has never been easy to understand, and the changes made over the last two years only add another level of confusion.
It is the intention of the MTSD to share information in a timely and easily digestible manner throughout the budget process. The information will include:
-
Summaries of new laws and how they will impact Milton,
-
An overview of the educational and operational priorities of the District, and
-
MSTD specific Data that will be used to inform decision-making
Similar to last year, the VT Agency of Education and other State Departments will also be sharing their own information and data related to Education Funding and Taxation. It is important to remember that their information is based on Statewide averages which may or may not be applicable to Milton. It is the hope of the MTSD Board of Trustees that you will stay engaged throughout the Budget Season and stay focused on the data and information that is relevant to Milton.

Facilities
As you may know, the Herrick Avenue Facility is experiencing multiple issues including: significant aging and end of life infrastructure; moisture from being situated on a wetland; and form and function of the traditional classroom layout that no longer supports the number and types of services or pedagogical approaches of 21st Century schools.
For several years, the MTSD Board of Trustees has engaged the community to set a direction. Addressing the issues at Herrick is both an urgent and timely endeavor. It is the intention of the Board to identify a plan by the end of January 2025. They will host their next Herrick Community Forum on Tuesday, October 15th at the MHS Library at 7:00 p.m. This is an in-person event.
