The Vermont Supreme Court will travel to Milton High School Thursday, October 24 to hear oral arguments. The Justices will hear oral argument in real cases in the same manner they are heard in Montpelier. The students of Milton High School, area high schools, and the public attending will also have an opportunity to interact with the Justices during a question-and-answer period.
The Justices normally hold term in the Supreme Court building in Montpelier, but each fall the Court holds a term “On the Road.” This is the third year that the Court will hear oral arguments at a high school. The goal of this unique event is to help students understand Vermont’s judicial system by providing students with the opportunity to observe the state’s highest court up close and to interact with the Supreme Court Justices. For many, the judicial branch is the least understood branch of government, and “On the Road” is a way to show the community how it works.
Please note due to the Vermont Supreme Court holding arguments at Milton High School there will be anincrease in security at the school building for the duration of the day. Students attending the arguments will go through a security screening prior to entering the auditorium, including wanding. Students should not bring backpacks or bags into the auditorium. Students may not take pictures or record audio or video.
